Have you ever visited a place that surprised you with its beauty and left you completely speechless with its spiritual energy?
Today, I am taking you on a journey to such a place—a hidden spiritual gem in the heart of Madhya Pradesh. Welcome to my very first blog! Join us as we explore the Maa Sundarmayi Vaishno Devi Dham in the small town of Suthaliya, Rajgarh.
While Rajgarh is often known for its historical forts and rich culture, today’s story is different. It is not about history; it is about unwavering faith, a divine miracle, and a temple built on a dream.
A Journey Inspired by a Miracle
The inspiration for this trip came unexpectedly. Until a few days ago, I had no idea this temple even existed. But everything changed when my husband, Pankaj, shared the miraculous story behind it.
He told me how the Goddess herself appeared in a dream to a local devotee, commanding the construction of this shrine. Hearing about this divine intervention and the experiences of other devotees, we knew we couldn’t stay away. We immediately decided to pack our bags and seek the Goddess’s blessings.
With hearts full of excitement and “Jai Mata Di” on our lips, we set off for Suthaliya.
First Impressions: Peace Beyond Words

When you first arrive, the temple might look like a simple, humble structure. But do not let that fool you.
The moment we stepped inside the complex, the atmosphere shifted completely. It was as if the noise of the world faded away, replaced by a profound sense of peace. There is a unique spiritual energy here that calms your mind and touches your soul instantly.
The complex features a beautiful, quiet garden where devotees sit and meditate, finding relief from their busy lives. It is the perfect spot to pause and breathe.
The Founder’s Story: Vaishno Devi Dham
We were fortunate to meet the temple’s founder, Shri Banti Agrawal, a devoted social worker from Suthaliya. He is a man who has dedicated his life to serving others, organising mass weddings (samuhik vivah) every year where over 100 couples have tied the knot.
He shared the incredible story of the temple’s origin.
“Maa appeared in my dream and ordered me to build this temple,” he told us
But the path was not easy. The design commanded by the Goddess was intricate and complex. Local builders gave up, saying it was impossible to construct. But faith finds a way. Specialised artisans were called all the way from Bengal, and finally, the grand vision became a reality.
Inside the Cave: A Mini Vaishno Devi
The main attraction of this temple is its unique cave-like structure, designed to replicate the holy Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, Jammu. Walking through it feels like a pilgrimage in itself.
- The Nine Forms of Goddess
As you enter the cave for darshan, you don’t just walk through a tunnel. You are greeted by idols of the nine forms of the Goddess (Navdurga), including Mata Chandraghanta, Mata Kushmanda, and Mata Shailputri. - The Divine Darshan
Deeper inside the cave, you reach the main sanctum. Here, you will find: - A mesmerising idol of Maa Durga seated on her lion.
- Below her, the three powerful pindis representing Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Maa Saraswati—just like in the original Vaishno Devi temple.
- Bhairav Baba
As tradition says, “No pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi is complete without visiting Bhairav Baba.” As you exit the cave, the path naturally leads you to the darshan of Baba Bhairavnath before bringing you back to the serene garden.
Vaishno Devi Dham Is More Than Just One Temple
The complex is a spiritual hub with several other beautiful shrines:
Sai Baba Temple: A peaceful replica of the Shirdi Sai Baba temple.
Ram Darbar: A shrine dedicated to Lord Ram, Mother Sita, and of course, Lord Hanuman.
Shiv-Parvati Temple: A special temple where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati reside amidst a mountain structure.
Amazing Fact: On festivals like Mahashivratri and Navratri, an artificial waterfall flows from these mountains, creating a breathtaking view!
One of the most touching sights for us was a special space Shri Banti Agrawal dedicated to his parents within the temple. It was a beautiful reminder that respecting our parents is as important as worshipping God.
